affected by exposure to light that is "natural". Not
getting enough natural light can have adverse effects on people,

Most artificial lamps emit light in only a narrow band of the visual spectrum - incandescent bulbs emit heavily from the red end of the spectrum... ordinary fluorescent bulbs, "cool" light primarily from the green-yellow-orange part of the spectrum. Natural light from the sun and sky has a balanced spectrum, made up of radiation across the visible and ultraviolet ranges, rendering colors perfectly. Notice in the charts above how closely Excella full-spectrum fluorescents simulate natural light. Because natural light renders colors perfectly, it is assigned a color rendering index (CRI) of 100. It is the reference standard for all high color rendering lamps, and Excella lamps come astonishingly close, with a CRI of 91.1!

One-For-One Replacement
While Excella fluorescents produce somewhat fewer lumens of light for the same wattage lamp that cool white fluorescents, they actually provide imporved seeing power. This is because footcandles of illumination are not the whole story when it comes to the ability to distinguish subjects.
Light from high color-rendering lamps like Excella fluorescents provide equal seeing power at only 60% to 70% of the footcandle level of a standard high lumen-output lamp such as a cool white. Hence the same wattage lamp Excella fluorescent can be substituted for conventional lamps one-for-one and seeing power will be increased. To calculate the number of Excella lamps needed to handle a specific task or to light a specific area, you can specify the same number as you would using cool white lamps and simply substitute Excella fluorescents. Installed wattage will be the same, and seeing power will be improved. Excella lamps will also operate perfectly in existing, standard fixtures.
